YPCC (Young People's Christian Center) Updates

  • Facility Repairs: Water leaks in the roof were addressed. The Recreation Director (RD) will contact Sunshine Metals for an estimate, as the previous vendor did not return calls.
  • Bingos: The bingo program is highly successful, with bookings extending into 2026. The board discussed limiting participation to Ebensburg businesses only, as currently only 3-4 non-local businesses are participating.

  • Online Scheduling: The RD is working with In Shore to develop an online booking system for pavilions. This will allow the community to view availability, book, and pay online. The board also discussed adding the hockey rink to this pilot program to resolve issues regarding unauthorized use and payment.
  • Pickleball: The Rotary Club is interested in converting the hockey rink into multipurpose pickleball courts and plans to fund the project. The board also discussed converting underused Memorial Field basketball courts into pickleball courts. Additionally, a YPCC group requested the board organize a pickleball tournament in June; the board is seeking volunteers to assist.

Pool Updates

  • Staffing: The RD is preparing for a pool/pesticide course in April. Abbey O’Brien has been confirmed as the 2025 pool manager.
  • Equipment & Events: A list of needs for the upcoming season has been created, including a new cash register, laptop, and plans for events and kids' activities.
  • Lifeguards: Applications are being accepted until Friday, March 21. Interviews will be held due to high applicant volume. Certification training will take place at the CCHS pool, organized by Rory Coleman (dates TBD).

Ballfields Updates

  • Memorial Ballfields: The RD is waiting for notification regarding funding from the local shares account to restore these fields.
  • Kimball Field: The Ebensburg Softball League has volunteered to restore Kimball Field at their own expense through Elite Gardening and Landscaping. Work is scheduled to begin within the next month.
  • Field Maintenance: The RD is coordinating with the maintenance director to hire a contractor to drag all three fields for the baseball and softball season (April through July).
