Meeting Overview
The Ebensburg Recreation Board held its monthly meeting on January 14, 2026, at the Ebensburg Borough Office. The meeting was called to order at 6:34 PM by Samantha Kemock and adjourned at 7:21 PM.
Attendance:
- Present: Rebecca Williamson, Samantha Kemock, Susan Kuhar, and Phil Woo.
- Absent: Theresa Jacoby, Ashley Bobby, Rory Coleman, and Melanie Boland.
YPCC Updates
Several updates were provided regarding the Young People's Community Center (YPCC):
- Equipment: A new Contour 2 rower and a Life Fitness spin bike were purchased, with an estimated delivery date of February 28th.
- Maintenance: A technician from the Kinetic Holding Group serviced all cardio equipment and is scheduled to return on January 17th to repair broken items.
- Bingo: Monthly bingo continues; January attendance increased to 89 participants, up from an average of 50 over the previous several months.
- Basketball: The winter basketball league is currently underway with no reported issues.
- Security: Security checks will continue from 9 PM to 12 AM on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays. No one under the age of 18 is permitted in the building after 9 PM due to a lack of supervision. Signage will be updated at the facility to reflect this rule.
- Gym Hours: Open gym hours will be extended to 11 AM – 5 PM on all weekdays when the Central Cambria School District is scheduled off. These updated times will be posted in the facility and on the Facebook page.
- Pickleball: The pickleball group will continue to have access to the hockey rink during the summer months. The rink is interchangeable, and pickleball nets must be removed after play.
Lake Rowena Grant
Updates were provided on the grant-funded improvements:
- Playground 1: Located by Pavilion 1, this area will be for ages 5–12 and include rubber surfacing.
- Playground 2: Located by Pavilion 2, this area will be for ages 2–5 and also include rubber surfacing. Both projects fit into the proposed budgets.
- Pending Items: Quotes for outdoor lighting and security are still pending. Changes to the concession stand and restrooms are also pending.
Pool
- The Amler Grant application is due on March 26th. Recreation Director (RD) Rebecca Williamson will follow up with the Borough Manager regarding this submission.
Memorial Ballfields
- Restoration: A local shares grant was confirmed on December 18th for the restoration of McDonald’s Field and First Energy Field.
- Timeline: The invitation to bid will be issued in February, with work anticipated to begin in March or April.
- Leases: A lease will be developed for the Bishop Carroll Softball team and the Ebensburg Little League.
Administrative
- The minutes from December were reviewed by Samantha Kemock.
- No appointments to the board or public comments were made.
- The next meeting is scheduled for February 11, 2026, at 6:30 PM at the borough office.
