Ebensburg Recreation Board Meeting Summary (August 13, 2025)

The monthly meeting of the Ebensburg Recreation Board was called to order at 6:38 PM by Samantha Kemock at Pavilion 1.

Attendance

  • Present: Samantha Kemock, Phil Woo, Ashley Bobby, Rory Coleman, and Rebecca Williamson.
  • Absent: Theresa Jacoby, Rory, Melanie Keller, Susan Kuhar, and Amber Mesoras.

Key Updates & Decisions

YPCC (Youth and Public Community Center)

  • Roof Repair: A proposal to bid for roof repairs was published in the Tribune Democrat on August 9th and 13th. A site visit is scheduled for August 14th, with bids due by August 25th.
  • Hockey Rink Transition: An online survey regarding converting the hockey rink to pickleball courts closed on July 28th. Results from Ebensburg Borough residents showed 53 votes in favor of changing the rink and 76 votes to leave it as is.
  • Halloween Party: Scheduled for October 26th from 3:00 PM to 5:00 PM. Ashley Bobby and Melanie Keller are assisting with planning. The event will include a vendor show, bounce house, games, face painting, and indoor trick-or-treating.
  • Gymnasium Closure: The gym will be closed for 5–7 days for roof repairs. Dates depend on the bidding process, and the community will be notified via Facebook and signage.

Pool Operations

  • Cleanup: The Recreation Director (RD), borough manager, and engineer met to discuss debris cleanup in the creek behind the pool. Maintenance is scheduling this work.
  • Events: Movie night with a basket raffle is set for August 15th. A "Pooch Party" is scheduled for September 7th.
  • Closing: The last day of operation for the pool is September 1, 2025.

Memorial Ballfields

  • Security Systems: Gittings partially installed a lock and alarm system on the bathrooms, storage shed, and concession stand. They are waiting for locks to arrive.
  • Maintenance Issues: The men's room door requires fixing or replacement as it does not close on its own. Maintenance has been notified.

Tennis Center

  • Fire Alarm: Gittings fully installed the fire alarm system with no reported issues.
  • SFU Transition: The RD will continue to monitor conversations between Jamie Taylor and the SFU coach regarding a transition from D1-D3 in 2027.

The meeting was adjourned at 7:28 PM, motioned by Samantha Kemock and seconded by Ashley Bobby. Minutes were recorded by Rebecca Williamson, Recreation Director.
