Meeting Overview

The Ebensburg Recreation Board held its monthly meeting on April 10, 2025, at the Ebensburg Borough Building. The meeting was called to order at 6:30 PM by Sam Kemock and adjourned at 7:44 PM.

Attendance:

  • Present: Sam Kemock, Amber Mesoras, Rory Coleman, and Rebecca Williamson.
  • Absent: Theresa Jacoby and Phil Woo.
  • Visitors: Susan Kuhar and Melanie Boland.

Board Updates & Appointments

  • New Interest: Melanie Boland submitted a letter of interest to join the Recreation Board. Ashley Bobby also expressed interest via text; RD (Recreation Director) will follow up to obtain a formal letter.
  • Council Update: Susan Kuhar, who is set to replace Dave Kuhar on the Borough Council, attended the meeting.

YPCC (Youth and Parks Community Center)

  • Roof Repairs: Sports Interior is scheduled to assess roof leaks on April 30, 2025.
  • Pickleball Tournament: The pickleball group is developing a board to assist with fundraising for an October tournament. A meeting was scheduled for April 10, 2025.
  • Court Location Dispute: Three members disagree with placing pickleball courts on the hockey rink at Lake Rowena. They recommend moving them to the Memorial Field basketball courts, which are currently underused.
  • Bingo Scheduling: Bingo bookings for February 2026 are already underway. Due to high demand, groups must submit an application by September 1, 2025. The group emphasized prioritizing local borough groups over outside entities (such as school districts) for available slots.

Ballfields

  • Kimball Field: Work has begun by Brian Holley of Elite Landscaping, with completion expected within two weeks.
  • Bathroom Painting: Scheduled for the May 15th "Brighten the Burg" project hosted by CCHS. RD and maintenance staff will assist.

Pool Operations

  • Opening: The pool house is planned to open and water be turned on during the last week of April, weather permitting.
  • Maintenance: RD is in contact with Avalotis regarding the final phase of pool painting.
  • Staffing: RD met with Abbey O’Brien regarding preparations. A mandatory meeting for all lifeguards (new and returning) is set for May 14th at the YPCC.
  • Break Areas: The group discussed break areas for lifeguards, including outdoor pavilions and a small room inside the pool house.
