Meeting Overview

The Ebensburg Recreation Board held its monthly meeting on March 11, 2026, at the Ebensburg Borough Office. The meeting was called to order at 6:37 PM by Phil Woo and adjourned at 7:17 PM.

Attendance:

  • Present: Rebecca Williamson, Samantha Kemock, Susan Kuhar, Phil Woo, Ashley Bobby, and Amber Mesoras.
  • Absent: Theresa Jacoby, Rory Coleman, and Melanie Boland.

Board Appointments

  • Ashley Bobby was voted in for a three-year term. The motion was made by Samantha Kemock and seconded by Amber Mesoras.

Old Business Updates

  • YPCC (Youth and Community Center):
    • New equipment, including a Contour 2 rower and a Life Fitness spin bike, has been purchased and delivered.
    • The winter basketball league is concluding with no reported issues.
    • Security checks will continue on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays from 9:00 PM to 12:00 AM.
  • Lake Rowena Grant:
    • Quotes for outdoor lighting and security were discussed with the borough manager and Comcast. Bids will be issued after the dredging bid is finalized.
    • Changes to the concession stand and restrooms have been made; the board is awaiting new plans from the engineer.
  • Pool:
    • An Amler Grant is due in October 2026; RD will follow up with the Borough Manager.
    • The board decided to install self-adhesive, flat non-slip strips in the shallow end of the pool to prevent tripping hazards. This motion was made by Samantha Kemock and seconded by Amber Mesoras.
    • Pool staff hiring will be determined after March 15th.

New Business

  • Memorial Ballfields:
    • The borough received an LSG grant of $42,000 for the reconstruction of McDonald’s Field and First Energy Field.
    • A competitive bid of $108,300 was rejected by the council. The Request for Bids (RFB) has been reposted with a deadline of March 17th. The project is expected to be completed by April 30th, weather permitting.
    • Leases Approved: The board approved leases for the Ebensburg Youth League (McDonald's Field, 6 years, $750/year) and Bishop Carroll Softball (1 year, $750). These payments are intended to help with future field maintenance. The motion was made by Amber Mesoras and seconded by Ashley Bobby.
  • YPCC Project: The "Brighten the Burg" project is scheduled for April 29th, led by CCHS Juniors and Seniors. Activities will include weeding, mulching, cleaning, and painting various locations in the borough.
  • Lake Field: The opening day for Ebensburg Youth League Baseball is set for May 1st.

The next meeting is scheduled for April 8, 2026, at 6:30 PM at the borough office. Minutes were recorded by Rebecca Williamson.
