Leadership Farewells and Changes

The newsletter highlights the retirement of two long-serving officials after decades of service to the community:

Chief Terry Wyland: After 40 years of service, Chief Wyland worked his final shift as the Ebensburg Borough Chief of Police on Friday, June 30th. The borough expressed gratitude for his exemplary service and professional demeanor.
Solicitor Blair Pawlowski: Long-time attorney Blair Pawlowski is stepping down as the Borough Solicitor after 50 years of service. He was first appointed in January 1974. His law firm, Pawlowski, Long & Gribler, will continue to represent the borough with Attorney Matt Gribler as the newly appointed Solicitor.

Several reminders regarding community safety and local laws were issued:

Pet Waste Clean-Up: It is against the law to leave pet waste on sidewalks, streets, parks, or in stormwater drains. The offense carries a fine of up to $600. 00. Waste must be bagged and taken to a public receptacle or the owner's home; it should not be placed in residential garbage cans. Free bags are available at Veterans Park, the YPCC Trailhead, and the soon-to-open Ebensburg Dog Park.
Parking Regulations: Parking against the flow of traffic is a year-round violation carrying a $15. 00 fine. Vehicles must be parked with the flow of traffic (passenger side against the curb). Additionally, sidewalks cannot be used as part of a driveway; blocking a sidewalk incurs a $15. 00 fine.
Reporting Issues: Residents are encouraged to report inappropriate graffiti, broken equipment, littering, or vandalism to the borough office (814-472-8780 or eburg@ebensburgpa. com). Suspicious activity should be reported to 9-1-1 or the non-emergency police number (814-472-2100).

Water System Upgrade: The borough is replacing the SwiftReach notification system with 'Ebensburg Water Alerts,' powered by Smart911. com. Existing users have been migrated to the new system, but residents are encouraged to log in to ensure contact information is current. Users can customize alerts via text, voice, or email. Registration is available at https://ebensburgpa. com/eburgwateralerts.
Electric Bikes: The YPCC has received a grant to purchase two Aventon Step-Through e-bikes. These will be available for rent soon. E-bikes provide electric assistance while pedaling, making it easier to navigate hilly areas or carry cargo.

Junior Councilor Opportunity: The Ebensburg Borough Council is seeking local high school or college students to serve as Junior Councilors. This non-voting position allows youth to engage in government and develop leadership skills. Applicants must be borough residents and attend monthly meetings on the 4th Monday of each month. Letters of interest can be sent to eburg@ebensburgpa. com.
Alley Ways Usage: The newsletter clarifies that many alleys in Ebensburg were never formally ordained as streets. While the borough has lost rights to open them, public access is generally preserved if previously permitted. Property owners abutting an alley are responsible for its maintenance but cannot park vehicles or store materials on it.

Concerts in the Park: Held at Penn Eben Park in Historic Downtown Ebensburg, hosted by the Ebensburg Main Street Partnership. The schedule is as follows:
