Ebensburg "Welcome" Mural Now on Display

A new mural reading "Welcome to Ebensburg, Pennsylvania" has been installed at Lake Rowena. The project was a cooperative effort involving the Ebensburg Main Street Partnership, Ebensburg Borough, Central Cambria High School (CCHS), and the Southern Alleghenies Museum of Art (SAMA).

• Student Involvement: Over 100 CCHS students in Mr. Brian Dumm’s visual arts class drew and painted the panels.
• Collaboration: Students worked with Ms. Deb Bunnell through SAMA’s Artist-in-Residence program.
• Location: The site was chosen for its size and "gateway" location as you enter the Borough.
• Other Projects: The Ebensburg Main Street Partnership has also completed projects like the "Big Blue Chair," a fire pit, pedal boats, and downtown flower baskets.

High Street Waterline Replacement Project

Construction on the High Street waterline replacement project began last month and is scheduled for completion in November.

• Scope: The project spans High Street from Triumph to Tanner.
• Method: Work will be completed in one-to-two block sections at a time.
• Purpose: To replace aging pipes, some of which contain lead-jointed cast iron piping dating back to the 1800s.
• Homeowner Impact: Any lead pipes connecting to homeowners' property lines will be replaced at no cost. Residents may experience traffic delays and temporary water loss, but service interruptions will be resolved the same day.

Maintaining Weeds & Grass

Property owners are required by law to keep grass, plants, and weeds at a height not exceeding 12 inches. Trees, bushes, flowers, and ornamental plants are exempt.

• Signage: It is unlawful to allow vegetation to obstruct stop signs or other official Borough signs.
• Enforcement: Violations are considered a nuisance and will result in citations.

Yard Waste Receptacle Policy Change

The Borough can no longer accept grass clippings at the yard waste receptacle site because they are not compostable unless regularly turned, and staff cannot dedicate time to this task.

• Future Requirements: Residents will eventually be required to reactivate fobs and pay a reactivation fee. They must also sign off on new terms of use.
• Enforcement: Camera enforcement will be used to ensure site rules are followed.

Alternative Options for Grass Clippings

• Grasscycling: Recycle clippings directly back into the lawn using a mulching mower.
• Composting: Mix brown and green organic materials in a bin or pile. A well-tended pile finishes in 2–4 weeks.
• Mulching Garden Beds: Use dry clippings as a 1–2 inch layer of mulch for flower and vegetable gardens.

Free Smoke Detectors

The Dauntless Fire Company is giving away free smoke detectors with escape lights or free carbon monoxide detectors to households in Ebensburg Borough or Cambria Township while supplies last.

• Funding: This program is supported by a grant from the Community Foundation of the Alleghenies, Lee Initiatives Health & Wellness Endowment, and Estep Realty Services.

Pickleball at the YPCC

Pickleball is available at the Young Peoples Community Center (YPCC).

• Schedule:
  • Mondays and Thursdays: 12:00 PM – 3:00 PM
  • Wednesdays: 8:00 AM – 10:30 AM
• Other Activities: Yoga, aerobics, fitness, self-defense, and roller skating (Wednesdays 10:30 AM – 12:30 PM).

Concerts in the Park

The Ebensburg Main Street Partnership presents concerts at Penn Eben Park from 6:00 PM to 9:00 PM.
