Ebensburg Area EMS Opens New Headquarters

Ebensburg Area EMS has relocated to a new facility at 800 West High Street. The $1. 3 million project involved purchasing a vacant building that previously housed a grocery store and bakery, followed by extensive renovations.

• New Facility: The 10,500-square-foot building replaces the previous 3,500-square-foot facility at 100 North Caroline Street.
• Significance: Executive Director Barry Blake described this as the "boldest and most progressive move" in the association's history since 1968.
• Service Area: The agency serves Ebensburg and Cambria Township as the primary EMS provider.

Former Prison Property Development Plans

Development plans are underway for the former Cambria County Prison property.

• Developer: Mr. Sheldon Piepenburg, a local resident of Allegheny Township.
• Project: The "Old Stone Prison Brewery," featuring a microbrewery, craft beer garden, restaurant, outdoor dining, and coffee shop.
• Goal: To preserve the history of the property while creating a community asset and tourist destination.
• Timeline: The developer aims to close on the property by the end of 2015, begin work in January 2016, and complete the project for a grand opening in October 2017.

Neighborhood Curb Appeal

• Impact: Poor maintenance on one property can negatively affect the entire neighborhood's reputation and value.
• Expectations: Residents are encouraged to mow lawns, trim tree lawn spaces between the curb and sidewalk, sweep sidewalks, and remove junk.
• Rental Properties: Landlords are urged to ensure tenants maintain the exterior of rental properties and to include maintenance requirements in leases.

Sidewalk Project

PennDOT has awarded a $1. 2 million contract to Gordon Delozier, Inc. for the borough's 2015 sidewalk project involving State highways.

• Locations: Work is being performed on Rowena Drive, West High Street, and South Center Street.
• Scope: Installation of new sidewalks and curbs, replacement of stormwater basins, and installation of electrical conduits for new Victorian streetlights.
• Schedule: Work began on Rowena Drive in June, moved to West High Street, and will conclude on South Center Street. The entire project is expected to be completed by October 30th.
• Disruption: Residents should expect traffic delays, dirt, dust, and mud during the construction period.

Sign Maintenance Plan

The borough is implementing a traffic sign maintenance plan to ensure compliance with safety standards.

• Process: Brianna Wasser is inspecting all signs (stop, parking, street name) for retro-reflectivity and condition.
• Action: Necessary signs will be replaced immediately, while others will be scheduled for future replacement.
• Goal: To ensure all traffic signs are compliant with the Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices and to budget for future replacements.
