Veterans Park Rededication

The new Veterans Park was officially rededicated during a ceremony on Memorial Day. The event included participation from county and borough officials, as well as area veteran organizations.

New Pavement Markings

The Borough Council has purchased equipment to apply thermo-plastic markings, which are more durable and straighter than traditional paint.

• First Project: Prave Street will be the first location for this new method, featuring 1,100 feet of white bicycle lane markings, bicycle emblems, and crosswalks.
• Future Projects: Following street resurfacing later in the year, new parking spaces and crosswalks will be installed on West Sample Street, West Crawford Street, and East Lloyd Street.

Mayor Randy Datsko presented a Proclamation to the Ebensburg Rotary Club.

Swimming Pool Updates

The 70-year-old swimming pool has undergone a major renovation to comply with current codes.

• Improvements: The pool is now heated, features a new concrete deck and tiled interior, and includes water slides, play structures, and handicap access.
• Bathhouse: The interior has been completely remodeled to provide privacy for restrooms and changing facilities.
• Fundraising: Contributions are still being accepted online at www. ebensburgpa. com.

Swimming Pool Trail

A new trail has been cleared and mulched to provide a safe shortcut for pedestrians walking to the pool, avoiding busy Rowena Drive.

• Route: The trail begins at the abandoned section of East High Street (just below Tanner Street), crosses an abandoned railroad bed, and follows the rail bed to the top of the hill above the pool.

Street Paving

Borough Council has awarded a $121,000 contract to Grannas Brothers for street resurfacing later this summer. The following streets are scheduled:

• Woolenmill Street: Midpoint to Rowena Dr.
• Poplar Street: High St. to Crawford St.
• Crawford Street: Center St. to Beech St.
• Alton Street: Center St. to Caroline St.
• Lloyd Street: Center St. to Locust St.
• Locust Street: Center St. to Ogle St.
• Cherry Street: Sample St. to Crawford St.
• Beech Street: Ogle St. to High St.
• Spruce Street: Ogle St. to Crawford St.
• Sample Street: Center St. to Julian St.

Ghost Town Trail & Signage

• New Pavilion: Work is progressing on a new green space and pavilion at the former Babcock Lumber Company site on South West Street. This includes new curbing, sidewalks, and landscaping to improve aesthetics and provide a resting place for trail users.
• Signage: To better welcome riders entering from the west, a 2013 project is planned to install signage encouraging visitors to ride up Cherry Street to visit Downtown Ebensburg and the end of the Trail at Rowena Drive.

New Gazebo

The old, rotting wood gazebo in Kimball Park has been replaced with a new steel structure featuring a wood roof. Four new benches will be installed upon completion.

The borough offers several scenic day trips for cars and motorcycles, all beginning and ending in Historic Ebensburg. Trips include:

Dickens of a Christmas

Organizations wishing to participate in this year's event must submit their information no later than October 12th. The event runs from November 30th to December 2nd.
