Ebensburg Enjoys a Successful 2025

The Borough Council and staff completed numerous projects in 2025, including:

• Celebrated the Borough’s 200th Anniversary of incorporation.
• Opened a 1975 Time Capsule and buried a new one to be opened in 2075.
• Installed a new report management system in the police department for automatic data reporting to PA State Police and FBI.
• Installed two Rectangular Rapid Flashing Beacons (RRFBs) at W. High & Julian Streets to improve pedestrian safety.
• Conducted a Community Outreach Survey for residents.
• Completed street resurfacing in select areas.
• Continued inspection of water lines and laterals to comply with the Lead-Copper Rule.
• Installed a thermal barrier at YPCC to prevent condensation on courts.
• Replaced bollard lighting in Penn Eben Park.
• Partnered with CCHS students for “Brighten the Burg” Clean-Up Day.
• Worked with PA Tourism Signing Trust to install “Historic Downtown Ebensburg” and “Ghost Town Trailhead” signs.
• Awarded a matching $25,000 endowment fund from Community Foundation for the Alleghenies.
• Secured a $4. 093 million grant for dredging Lake Rowena and park upgrades.
• Completed hiring search for new Public Works Director and crew member.
• Purchased a new hook truck and leaf vacuum.
• Initiated a parking study to identify appropriate fee and enforcement strategies.
• Administered matching funds for five completed façade projects.

Meet Ebensburg’s New Public Works Director

Jerry Poruban was hired as the new Public Works Director in October after serving as interim director since August. He first joined the borough as a laborer in September 2021.

“I’m proud to serve the Borough of Ebensburg as Public Works Director and to work for such a great community. I’ve spent years in the field alongside our crews, and that hands-on experience shapes how I lead. I believe in leading by example, supporting the people doing the work, and being accountable to the residents we serve. My focus is on maintaining and improving Ebensburg as a whole. Public works should be visible, approachable, and transparent, and I look forward to working closely with borough council, staff, and residents. ”

Ebensburg Installs Two Rectangular Rapid Flashing Beacons (RRFBs)

Two RRFBs have been installed on each side of W. High Street at the Julian Street intersection. PA law requires drivers to yield to pedestrians in crosswalks. Pedestrians also have a responsibility not to enter traffic suddenly when vehicles cannot safely stop. Crosswalks are shared safety zones. Right-of-way is a legal obligation, not a courtesy—and it depends on awareness from all involved. Those who do not obey the laws of the crosswalk will be subject to a fine.

Sign Up for Auto Pay and Never Pay a Late Fee!

If you find yourself rushing around at the end of the month trying to get your bills paid, consider signing up to have the funds automatically withdrawn from your bank account on the last day your payment is due. If you’d like to see the application emailed to you, please call the office at 814-472-8780. Save yourself the worry of having to mail or drop off a check.

Ebensburg Borough Health & Wellness Facility

Located inside the YPCC, this facility offers first-rate cardio and weight equipment, along with personal trainers/fitness instructors. Classes are open for drop-ins at a rate of $5. 00/class or $35. 00/month. Check the website or Facebook page for a current class schedule.

The YPCC is also affiliated with SilverSneakers, Silver & Fit, Renew Active and FitOn Health. (Check with your insurance provider to see if you qualify for the benefit. )

The YPCC

The primary mission of the Young Peoples Community Center (YPCC) has always been to provide activities and a safe, inviting place for the areas youth to play and hangout with their friends. While still keeping this at the core of the mission, the YPCC has evolved into a Health & Wellness Center as mentioned above. Adding various exercise classes into the daily activities at the YPCC. There is open gym daily (hours vary) at no cost for kids under 18 to play in the gym.

Cross-Country Ski & Bike/E-Bike Rental Programs

Both cross-country skis/equipment and bike rentals are now offered through the YPCC at an hourly rate of $8/adult or $6/youth; or full day rate of $32/adult or $24/youth. A waiver of liability must be signed before renting. E-Bikes rentals are offered at a rate of $15/hour or $60/day.

Pavilion Rentals

The Borough rents out three pavilions at Lake Rowena and two at the Ebensburg Borough Swimming Pool. The cost to rent a pavilion is $125. 00. Call the YPCC to check availability and to make a reservation.

Outdoor Skate/Hockey Rink

Located at Lake Rowena, the rink is open year round for street or in-line hockey. There are hockey goals provided and lights for evening play too. Best part is, it’s FREE and open to the public. Removable pickleball nets are available for those who would like to play pickleball.

Swimming Pools

Since its renovation in 2011, the Borough Swimming Pool has been enjoyed by many. The area is fortunate to have a public pool that is up-to-date, heated, kid friendly and handicap accessible. The Borough Pool is available for afterhour private party rentals.
