Ebensburg Enjoys a Successful 2021

The Borough Council and staff completed numerous projects in 2021, including:

• Infrastructure: Milled and resurfaced most streets in the northwest quadrant, installed new curbs/sidewalks on W. Horner, W. Crawford, and W. Sample Streets, and installed audible pedestrian signals at High and Center Street.
• Grants & Funding: Received a $112k grant for the Dog Park project at Lake Rowena, secured a $1. 2 million grant and $805k loan for High Street water line replacement, and obtained a one-year extension on the Façade Improvement Project grant.
• Other Projects: Improved playing surfaces at Center Ward Playground, obtained gold level certification in the PA Sustainable Community Program, resurfaced airport taxiways with RACRA, and transitioned to a new borough manager.

Council Adopts 2022 Budget

The Borough Council adopted a budget of $6,287,475 for 2022. This budget avoids a tax increase for the 12th consecutive year. Planned projects for 2022 include:

• Replacing the water main along High Street.
• Replacing gas lines in the northwest quadrant of town (including milling and paving).
• Refinishing benches, bollard lights, trash receptacles, and pole bases.
• Preparing designs for pool repairs and pursuing grants.
• Completing street resurfacing on Hillcrest Drive and Elderwood neighborhood.
• Planting new trees in areas of the 2021 sidewalk project.
• Repairing the fishing pier and removing the suspended boat dock.
• Closing out the Façade Improvement Grant contract and applying for new funding.

New Businesses

Ebensburg welcomes several new businesses:

• Drayer Physical Therapy Institute: 1104 W. High Street, Suite 2
• Hometown Retirement Specialists (HRS): 117 S. Center Street
• Nail Haven: 1153 West High Street, Suite 4
• That Dog Guy: 1215 N. Center Street (Canine obedience & behavior modification)
• The Porch Peddler: 113 S. Center Street (Arts & crafts store and workshop)

Gas Line Replacement Project

Peoples Natural Gas will begin replacing gas lines in the northwest quadrant of town this Spring. The project is scheduled to be completed by June, followed by milling and paving. Affected streets include:

• N. West Street (from Crawford to Highland Avenue)
• W. Horner Street (from West to Marian Street)
• W. Milton Street (from West, going West, until it ends)
• N. Spruce Street (from Horner to just past Alton Street)
• Belmont Street (from W. Milton almost to Highland Ave)

Swift911 Emergency Notification

The borough uses SwiftReach Networks, Inc. for emergency notifications via phone calls. Residents are encouraged to add their information to the list to receive alerts about boil water notices, water/sewer emergencies, and other important announcements. Calls will display the Caller ID of Ebensburg Borough or Police Department. Residents can add themselves via the borough website (www. ebensburgpa. com) or by contacting the borough office.

YPCC Updates & Information

The Young Peoples Community Center (YPCC) offers a Health & Wellness Facility with cardio/weight equipment and classes.

• Hours: Mon-Fri 9am-9pm, Sat 10am-9pm, Sun Noon-9pm.
• Membership Fees: Adult $30/mo, Seniors (55+) $25/mo, Student/Military $25/mo, Family (1 Adult & 1 Student) $50/mo. Daily drop-in is $5.
• Specials: Purchase 3 months get 1 free, 6 months get 2 free, 9 months get 3 free.
• Key Fob: Anyone 18+ can gain 24-hour access for a $10 fee.
• Youth: Open gym is free for kids under 18 (hours vary).
• Rental Programs: Cross-country ski and bike rentals are available at Lake Rowena ($8/adult or $6/youth hourly; $32/adult or $24/youth full day).
• Pavilion Rentals: Three pavilions at Lake Rowena and two at the Borough Pool are available for $50. 00 (plus a $25 cleaning deposit).
• Outdoor Skate/Hockey Rink: Located at Lake Rowena, open year-round for street/in-line hockey. Free and open to the public.
• Swimming Pools: The Borough Pool is heated, kid-friendly, and handicap accessible. The YPCC also manages swimming lessons and open swims at the Central Cambria High School Pool.

• Opening Day: Saturday, May 28, 2022.
• Hours: Mon-Thu 12pm-7pm, Fri-Sun 12pm-6pm.
• Rates:
  • Walk-in: Adult $7, Seniors/Children (4-18) $5.
  • Multi-Visit (Min. 5 Passes): Adult $30, Seniors/Children $20.
  • Season Pass: Adult $135, Seniors/Children $110.
  • Add-on to Season Pass: $40/person.
• Note: Free admission for children under 3 and with Military ID.

Borough Council & Elected Officials

The council welcomed new member Robert "Bob" Miller, who took over the seat vacated by Scot May. Newly re-elected members include Doug Tusing and Theresa Jacoby. Mayor Randy Datsko and Tax Collector Charlene Remillard were also sworn in.
