Meeting Overview
The Ebensburg Recreation Board held its monthly meeting on September 12, 2024, at the Ebensburg Borough Building. The meeting was called to order at 6:30 PM by Samantha Kemock and adjourned at 7:31 PM.
Attendance:
- Present: Rebecca Williamson (Rec. Director), Samantha Kemock, Dr. Phil Woo, and Rory Coleman.
- Absent: Diane Hoffman, Jamie Oravec, Kristen McRoberts, and Theresa Jacoby.
Updates from Visitors
- Tim Scanlan (EYL): Provided an update on finished scoreboard projects at Lake Field (dedicated to Justin Yahner) and Lions Field (dedicated to Luke Trotz). He discussed a grant to cover light replacement costs at both fields and requested an updated, long-term lease for the facilities. The request was sent to the borough attorney for review. Tim also requested care for the playground at Lions Field.
- Dave Petrosky (YPCC Pickleball Group): Reported on new tape lining for courts at the YPCC. The group is interested in converting the hockey rink at Lake into pickleball courts. A grant application for $12,500 is pending to resurface the rink with both hockey and pickleball lines, install new scoreboards, and add nets. Results are expected by January.
Board Business
- Minutes: The July 2024 minutes were reviewed and approved via motion by Samantha Kemock, seconded by Dr. Phil Woo.
- Financial Report: The August 2024 financial report was reviewed via motion by Samantha Kemock, seconded by Dr. Phil Woo.
Old Business
- Pool Renovations: The first round of renovations is complete, which has delayed the pool opening by approximately two weeks.
- Mold Issue: The board discussed mold found in the ladies' room at the pool and noted that additional cleaning is required.
- TranSystems/YPCC Expansion: Dr. Phil Woo proposed using funds from the non-profit fund to have plans drawn up for this expansion. This item will be added to the council meeting agenda.
- Sub-committee: The establishment of a sub-committee for childhood development and community service was deferred as member Kristen McRoberts was absent.
- Halloween Event: Scheduled for October 27, 2024, from 3:00 PM to 5:00 PM.
New Business
- YPCC Basketball League: The group discussed reconstructing the league to be more inclusive and focused on learning rather than competition. Samantha Kemock offered to assist Rebecca Williamson with scheduling, and the board discussed forming a committee for planning and implementation.
- Revenue Generation: The group discussed ways to increase revenue at the YPCC by implementing additional programs.
- Meeting Schedule: The board discussed potentially changing the meeting night to Wednesday evenings (either 6:30 or 7:00 PM) to improve attendance. A vote on this change will follow in a future meeting.
