Ebensburg Recreation Board Minutes — October 10, 2024

Meeting Overview

The Ebensburg Recreation Board held its monthly meeting on October 10, 2024, at the Ebensburg Borough Building. The meeting was called to order at 6:30 PM by Samantha Kemock.

Attendance:

  • Present: Samantha Kemock, Phil Woo, Diane Hoffman, Jamie Oravec, Rebecca Williamson.
  • Absent: Theresa Jacoby, Kristen McRoberts, Rory Coleman.

Old Business & Updates

Pool Renovations

  • The second round of renovations began on October 7, 2024.
  • Rebecca Williamson is in daily contact with project manager Charlie.
  • Josh and the borough team are assisting by moving sand from the pool parking lot to a new location.
  • Purchases: A new laptop will be purchased after checking compatibility with In Shore, and shower curtains will be replaced for the next season.

Memorial Ball Fields

  • The board is awaiting grant notification, expected by mid-November.
  • Staffing: The group discussed hiring Tim Golden as a contracted field worker for all three Memorial ball fields to ensure consistent maintenance.
  • EYL Agreement: The Ebensburg Youth League (EYL) agreed to increase their rent to cover Tim Golden's pay for maintaining the tee ball field. Rebecca Williamson will contact Jessica Furgeson regarding softball fields.

Ebensburg Youth League

  • Signed leases for the Lake Field and Lions Field have been obtained and sent to the borough manager for signature.

Halloween Party

  • Date/Time: October 27, 2024, from 3:00 PM to 5:00 PM at the YPCC.
  • Status: Approximately 18 vendors have confirmed.
  • Volunteers: 5-10 volunteers from St. Francis will assist with face painting and games.
  • Attendees: Rebecca Williamson, Kristin McRoberts, and Diane Hoffman plan to attend.

New Business

Expansion Project

  • Dr. Woo received a cost estimate of $14,500 for the feasibility study regarding the YPCC expansion.
  • The board expressed concern over spending this amount if construction cannot proceed. Dr. Woo will contact Transystems to request "a la carte" pricing and report back.

YPCC Basketball League

  • Schedule: January 4, 2025 – March 30, 2025.
  • Location: The group decided to use the YPCC for all games rather than renting the CCHS gym (which would have cost $700 total).
  • Referees:
    • Professional referees will be paid $30 per game.
    • For the K-2 league, student referees from CCHS will be used at $20 per game. Rebecca Williamson is coordinating with Wade Klezek to arrange training.
  • Staffing: The home team will provide a bookkeeper and clock keeper if staff is short.

YPCC Swim Team

  • Registration: 55 students have registered (8 fewer than last year).
  • Costs: Renting the CCHS swimming pool has increased this year.
  • Schedule: The first meet is the first weekend in November.

Administrative Decisions

  • New Meeting Day: To increase attendance, board meetings will now be held on Wednesdays at 6:30 PM at the Borough Building. Rebecca Williamson will contact the Borough Manager for proper postings.
  • Subcommittees: The board agreed that members and community volunteers will assist in increasing programming and expanding leagues at the YPCC.

Adjournment

The meeting adjourned at 7:53 PM. The next meeting is scheduled for November 14, 2024, at the Ebensburg Borough Building. Minutes were submitted by Rebecca Williamson, Recreation Director.
